Sprout Social alternatives in 2026, sorted by the job you need done

Leaving Sprout Social over its $199 per seat inbox? Six alternatives compared on price, inbox, DMs and video editing, with prices checked October 2026.

By Tools Ledger staff8 min read

Sprout Social puts its inbox on Standard at $199 per seat a month, billed annually, as of August 2026. Six tools cover part or all of that job for less, and which one fits depends on whether you mostly post, mostly reply or do both. Pick BetterSocials if comments and DMs bring in your customers and you want posting, replies and video editing in one tool, and Buffer for posting on a small budget.

Pick Metricool to start free, Agorapulse or Hootsuite for a team inbox at a lower per-user price, and Later if Instagram is where your conversations happen.

Each price below carries the month it was seen, and we correct this entry in place when a price or a plan changes. Updated October 27, 2026.

Sprout Social's per-seat bill, and how we sorted the alternatives

Sprout Social charges $199 per seat a month on Standard, billed annually, and Standard is where its consolidated inbox starts. One seat is $199 a month. Three seats come to just under six hundred dollars, and five to just under a thousand.

Sprout Social's inbox reads TikTok comments, and the price is set per seat, so the bill grows with every person you add. For one person, that's $199 a month before a second login.

We sorted this entry by job: posting, replies, or both in one tool. Three things decide which alternative fits: how many people answer the inbox, which platforms bring the questions, and whether DMs and video editing matter to you.

Buffer, if the job is mostly posting

Buffer is best for one person or a small team that mostly schedules posts and answers a few comments by hand. Buffer charges $5 a channel a month on annual billing, as of August 2026. Four channels come to $20 a month and six to $30, against $199 for one Sprout Social seat.

Buffer's Community inbox covers comments on every plan, and it reads YouTube comments. The inbox is comments only, with no DMs, so Instagram and Facebook messages stay in each phone app.

Pick Buffer when posting is the job and DMs are rare. If buyers write to you in DMs, you'll still answer them in each platform's own app.

BetterSocials, if comments and DMs bring in customers

BetterSocials is best for a local business, creator or small agency whose comments and DMs bring in customers. Other tools here cover parts of its job: Buffer and Metricool read YouTube comments, and Later, Hootsuite and Sprout Social read TikTok comments. BetterSocials adds comments from six platforms and DMs from three in one inbox, with replies drafted in your voice, at a price set by account count.

The six platforms are Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Threads, TikTok and LinkedIn. DMs come in from Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, while YouTube, Threads and LinkedIn Company Pages bring comments and public replies. The AI drafts each comment reply from your past replies and the rules you write, and you approve it before it posts.

You can let everyday comment replies send on their own with the Reply in my voice setting. Questions still wait in Needs reply for you unless you turn on Answer questions too, which needs at least one AI rule first. DMs have the same setting in their own section, for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok DMs.

Keyword comment-to-DM means a comment with a word you pick triggers a reply with your link, and BetterSocials sets it up without a flow builder. On Instagram and Facebook it sends a DM with the link. On TikTok, YouTube, Threads and LinkedIn Company Pages it posts a public reply with the link instead.

Every paid plan includes a browser video editor next to scheduling and the inbox. It cuts silence and filler words and adds captions, with 4 minutes of footage per project on Creator, 60 minutes on Pro and 2 hours on Team.

Creator is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for four accounts and one login, as of October 2026. Pro is $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly, for six accounts. Team is $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, for twelve accounts and unlimited teammates.

Buffer is cheaper at matching counts: four channels cost $20 a month on annual billing, against $24 for four BetterSocials accounts. The difference buys DMs in the same inbox, AI drafts in your voice and keyword DMs. BetterSocials doesn't connect X, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS or email inboxes, and its 7-day trial needs a card.

Metricool, if you want to start on a free plan

Metricool is best for a small business that wants to start free, with scheduling, analytics and an inbox in one place. Metricool's free plan covers one brand, can't schedule more than 20 posts a month, and reads YouTube comments on that tier. Starter is $25 a month, or $20 billed yearly, for five brands, as of October 2026.

Advanced is $67 a month, or $53 billed yearly, on Metricool's pricing page. Metricool pairs scheduling with a real inbox, and you reach it without paying the $199 per seat where Sprout Social's inbox starts.

Metricool also has an MCP connector, the standard way an assistant like Claude plugs into an app, on every plan including Free. It covers the planner and analytics, but inbox messages and post comments aren't available through it, per Metricool's page on MCP limits. Pick Metricool to start free and move to Starter when one brand isn't enough.

Agorapulse, if several people answer the inbox

Agorapulse is best for a team that wants a shared inbox and scheduling at a lower per-user price. Agorapulse is $79 per user a month on annual billing, as of July 2026. Three people on Agorapulse pay well under half of what three Sprout Social seats cost.

Agorapulse pairs scheduling with a real inbox. Email isn't in its channel list, and the bill still grows with each user you add.

Agorapulse makes sense when several people answer and you want to keep per-user seats for less.

Later, if Instagram is where the conversations happen

Later is best for an Instagram-first brand that wants Instagram, Facebook and TikTok conversations in one inbox. Later's Conversations inbox covers Instagram DMs and comments, Facebook DMs and comments and TikTok comments. It starts on Growth at $50 a month, or $37.50 billed yearly, as of September 2026.

Starter is $25 a month, or $18.75 billed yearly, and sits below the plan where Conversations start. Scale is $110 a month, or $82.50 billed yearly. Later has no YouTube conversations and no LinkedIn conversations.

Pick Later when Instagram is your main platform and one Growth plan can stand in for a Sprout Social seat.

Hootsuite, if you want per-user seats for less

Hootsuite is best for a team that wants per-user seats like Sprout Social's at about half the seat price. Hootsuite includes its inbox from Standard at $99 per user a month, billed annually, as of July 2026. Three users come to just under three hundred dollars a month, about half of three Sprout Social seats.

Hootsuite's inbox reads TikTok comments, and its seats are priced per user, the same way Sprout Social prices them.

Hootsuite fits a team that wants to keep per-user seats and doesn't get its questions on YouTube.

Sprout Social and the six alternatives by job and price

The table below puts Sprout Social in the first row for reference. Every price is the monthly rate on annual billing, as of July to October 2026, and Metricool's entry is its free plan. BetterSocials Creator is $29 a month on monthly billing, for four accounts.

For a three-person team on annual billing, three Sprout Social seats come to just under six hundred dollars a month. Hootsuite comes to just under three hundred, and Agorapulse to under two hundred and forty. BetterSocials Team is $79 a month billed yearly for twelve accounts and unlimited teammates, so a third person adds nothing to the bill.

For one person on four accounts, Buffer is $20 a month and BetterSocials Creator is $24, both on annual billing. One Sprout Social seat is $199.
