Hootsuite alternatives with an inbox under $50 in 2026

BetterSocials leads at $29 a month for four accounts, with DMs and comments in one inbox. Buffer and Metricool cost less if you only answer comments.

Hootsuite's inbox starts on Standard at $99 per user a month, billed yearly, so every tool below costs less than one Hootsuite seat. Five of them start under $50 a month. If your comments and DMs bring in customers, BetterSocials is our pick in that band: Creator is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for four accounts, with Instagram, Facebook and TikTok DMs beside comments from six platforms.

Buffer costs less if you only answer comments. Metricool suits one brand on the smallest budget.

Every price here is what the vendor's own page listed in October 2026. Buffer's is from August and Later's from September.

Why this ledger stops at $50 a month

Hootsuite's Standard plan charges per user. Sprout Social puts its inbox on Standard at $199 per seat a month, billed yearly. Both prices assume a team with a seat per person.

We drew the band at $50 a month, about half of one Hootsuite seat, for one person answering their own comments and DMs. Five tools fit under it on yearly billing.

Agorapulse and Vista Social sit above it, for the day a second person joins you.

What a tool needed to make the ledger

Each of the seven tools here, BetterSocials included, passed three tests. It schedules posts. It has an inbox on a plan that costs less than Hootsuite Standard. And it has a price we could record, with the month we saw it.

Comment-to-DM means a keyword typed in a comment sends that person a private message with your link.

BetterSocials Creator at $29 a month for four accounts

BetterSocials is best for businesses and creators whose comments and DMs bring in customers. It's an AI social media manager for local businesses, creators and small agencies, and it posts to six platforms and answers what comes back in one inbox.

Instagram, Facebook and TikTok comments and DMs land in that inbox, with YouTube, Threads and LinkedIn Company Page comments beside them. YouTube has no DM API for any tool, so YouTube is comments and public replies in every product here. X, email and WhatsApp aren't channels in BetterSocials.

Pallyy, Later and Agorapulse also put DMs in their inboxes, and Vista Social pairs its inbox with DM automations. What sets BetterSocials apart at its price is AI replies in your voice and comment-to-DM with no flow to build. AI replies have a Comments section and a DMs section, each set to Off, Draft for me or Reply in my voice.

On Instagram and Facebook, a keyword comment sends the DM with your link. On TikTok, YouTube, Threads and LinkedIn Company Pages, the keyword posts a public reply with the link instead. New messages that ask about price, booking or availability get a Lead tag, free and on by default.

Creator is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for four accounts and one login. Pro is $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly, for six accounts, which keeps it in the band too. Team is $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, for 12 accounts and unlimited teammates.

Every plan has unlimited contacts, with nothing billed per contact, and a 7-day free trial with a card required.

Metricool's per-brand plans and free inbox

Metricool is best for one brand on the smallest budget. Its inbox starts on the free plan and reads YouTube comments, and LinkedIn joins it on Starter. Metricool is $20 a month per brand.

That's less than BetterSocials Creator on either billing period. Because the price is per brand, each extra brand adds another $20.

For the difference, BetterSocials adds keyword comment-to-DM, so a keyword comment on Instagram or Facebook sends that person your link by DM.

Pallyy Pro for comments, DMs and Google reviews

If you answer Instagram and TikTok comments next to your Google reviews, Pallyy keeps them together. Its inbox starts on Pro at $25 a month, or $20 billed yearly. Pro brings Instagram DMs and comments, Facebook messages and comments, LinkedIn comments, TikTok comments and Google reviews into one place.

Pallyy Pro billed yearly costs a few dollars a month less than BetterSocials Creator billed yearly. There's no YouTube in Pallyy's inbox, though, so those few dollars on BetterSocials buy YouTube comments in the same place.

Buffer's per-channel pricing for comment-only inboxes

Buffer is best for posting when comments matter more than DMs. It charges $5 per channel a month on annual billing, and its Community inbox comes with every plan. That inbox reads comments, YouTube comments included, while Instagram and Facebook DMs stay in the phone app.

Buffer is cheaper per account than BetterSocials. Four channels come to $20 a month billed yearly, a few dollars under Creator's $24, and six come to $30 against $39 for BetterSocials Pro. The difference buys the DM side of the inbox, with AI replies and keyword comment-to-DM on the same plan.

Later Growth for Instagram DMs at the top of the band

Later fits Instagram-first brands that also get TikTok comments. Its Conversations inbox starts on Growth, at $37.50 a month billed yearly or $50 month to month. Conversations covers Instagram and Facebook DMs and comments plus TikTok comments.

Later Growth stays under $50 only on yearly billing. Starter is $18.75 a month billed yearly, or $25 monthly, but Conversations don't start until Growth. Later has no YouTube or LinkedIn conversations.

At $24 a month against $37.50, BetterSocials Creator costs less on yearly billing and brings YouTube and LinkedIn Company Page comments into the inbox.

Agorapulse and Vista Social, above $50 a month

Agorapulse and Vista Social cost more than this band and less than one Hootsuite seat on yearly billing. Agorapulse prices per user and Vista Social Professional includes two users, which makes them the next rows to read when someone else starts answering with you.

Agorapulse Standard for a team that splits replies

A small team that shares the replies is where Agorapulse fits. Standard is $79 per user a month billed yearly, with 10 social profiles per user, per Agorapulse's pricing page. Every plan has one inbox for comments, DMs and reviews, and the page lists assignment, reply collision detection and AI reply suggestions among its inbox features.

Pricing is per user, so a second person doubles the Standard bill. Extra profiles cost $10 a month each on annual billing, or $15 monthly. For comparison, BetterSocials Team is $79 billed yearly for 12 accounts and unlimited teammates.

Vista Social Professional for two people and DM automations

Two people who want DM automations can share Vista Social Professional, which is $99 a month, or $80 billed yearly, with two users. It pairs a social inbox with DM automations, and the 14-day trial needs no card.

That $80 is about half what two Agorapulse Standard seats cost on yearly billing. BetterSocials Team costs $1 less, with unlimited teammates.

The ledger: every plan, and a year at four accounts

The table below lists the plan where each inbox starts as we recorded it between August and October 2026. BetterSocials comes first and Hootsuite last, for reference. Meta DMs means Instagram and Facebook DMs.

Take one person with four accounts on yearly billing. Hootsuite Standard is $99 a month, and BetterSocials Creator is $24, or $288 a year.

Over twelve months, the Hootsuite seat costs more than four times as much.

Buffer at four channels is $20 a month on yearly billing, a little under Creator, with comments only in its inbox. On yearly billing, Pallyy Pro is $20 a month and Later Growth is $37.50.

BetterSocials does, from $29 a month for four accounts, with Instagram, Facebook and TikTok DMs beside comments from six platforms. Agorapulse lists AI reply suggestions among its inbox features as well.
