Every tool here starts under $50 a month for one person, and three of them have a free plan. For a solopreneur who posts and replies alone, BetterSocials is our pick, at $29 monthly, or $24 billed yearly, for four accounts. It posts to six platforms and answers comments and DMs from one inbox, in your voice. Buffer costs less if you mostly post, and Metricool's free plan suits one brand.

Which flat-price tool fits a solopreneur who posts and replies alone?

Where your sales come from decides between BetterSocials, Buffer and Metricool. If comments and DMs bring in customers, BetterSocials fits, since posting and replies sit in one place. Buffer fits when posting is most of the work, and Metricool fits when you want to start at zero.

By price band, the list splits three ways:

  • Free: Metricool's free plan, Publer's free plan and Meta Business Suite.
  • Under $10 a month: Publer Professional, for one or two accounts.
  • $20 to $40 a month: Buffer at four channels, Metricool Starter, Pallyy Pro, BetterSocials Creator, SocialBee Bootstrap and Later Growth.

How we picked these tools

Every tool on this list, BetterSocials included, charges a flat price. On this page, a flat price is a bill set by the plan or by the number of accounts, channels or brands, and never by contacts. A solopreneur's bill moves with the plan or the account count, where a per-user tool charges for every login.

That rule left out three well-known names. Each price on this page is the one we saw in October 2026, with both billing figures where the vendor shows both. Hootsuite puts its inbox on Standard at $99 per user a month, and Sprout Social puts its inbox on Standard at $199 per seat a month, both billed annually. ManyChat Pro is $39 a month for 2,500 active contacts, and each extra contact costs $0.05, billed monthly.

If you plan to hire, our list of social media tools with unlimited users in 2026, sorted by what a whole team pays covers the team side.

BetterSocials: best for solopreneurs whose comments and DMs bring in customers

BetterSocials posts to Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Threads, LinkedIn and TikTok, and every comment and DM lands in one inbox. It suits solopreneurs, creators and local businesses whose comments and DMs bring in customers. It drafts your replies, and you decide what sends on its own.

AI replies have a Comments section and a DMs section, each with three settings: Off, Draft for me and Reply in my voice. Drafts are written in your voice from your past replies and the AI rules you write, such as your prices, hours and booking link.

Questions wait in Needs reply unless you turn on Answer questions too, and when your rules don't cover a question, the AI doesn't guess.

Keyword comment-to-DM means a word in a comment sends that person a DM with your link. BetterSocials does this on Instagram and Facebook with no flow builder. On TikTok, YouTube, Threads and LinkedIn Company Pages, the keyword posts a public reply with the link instead.

Creator is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for four accounts, one login and 1,000 AI credits a month. Pro is $49 a month, or $39 billed yearly, for six accounts. Team is $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, for twelve accounts and unlimited teammates.

Every plan has unlimited contacts, unlimited keyword automations and a 7-day free trial with a card. There's no free plan. BetterSocials doesn't connect X or email inboxes.

Buffer: best for posting on a small budget

Buffer is best for a solopreneur who mostly posts and can answer DMs in the phone apps. Buffer Essentials is $5 a channel a month on annual billing, so four channels come to 4 x $5 = $20 a month.

Buffer's inbox covers comments on your posts and reads YouTube comments. Instagram and Facebook DMs stay in the phone app.

At four accounts on yearly billing, Buffer comes to $20 a month against $24 for BetterSocials Creator. The few extra dollars bring DMs into the same inbox as comments, with AI replies in your voice for both and keyword comment-to-DM.

Metricool: best for one brand that wants a free start

Metricool is best for one business that wants to start free and still get an inbox. It prices per brand, and each brand holds its own social networks. The free plan covers one brand, 20 scheduled posts a month and 30 days of analytics, on every network except LinkedIn and X.

Metricool Starter is listed from $20 a month for up to five brands, or $36 for up to ten. It adds unlimited publishing and the LinkedIn connection. The inbox starts on the free plan, and LinkedIn joins it on Starter.

If buyers comment a word to get your link, BetterSocials sends that link by DM on Instagram and Facebook, with no flow builder to set up and no cap on keyword automations.

SocialBee: best for recycling evergreen posts

If you repost evergreen content on a schedule, SocialBee is the one to look at. SocialBee's Bootstrap plan, pitched at freelancers and solopreneurs, has up to five social profiles, one user, ten content categories and unlimited AI content generation. It costs $29 monthly, or 16% less billed yearly.

SocialBee sorts posts into content categories and can recycle top or evergreen posts at a later date, or expire them after a set number of shares. Its pricing page lists comments, mentions and DMs for Facebook Pages and Instagram Business accounts, and comments for YouTube, Threads and LinkedIn Company Pages.

On monthly billing, SocialBee Bootstrap and BetterSocials Creator both cost $29. SocialBee gives five profiles for that, BetterSocials four accounts. Pick SocialBee when the work is mostly posting. Pick BetterSocials when the DMs are where the sales come from, since it drafts those replies in your voice.

Publer: best for the lowest bill on one or two accounts

Publer Professional is the smallest bill here for one or two accounts: $5.00 a month, or $4.00 billed yearly, for one social account. The price rises with each account, and two accounts are $9 a month on monthly billing.

Publer counts the plan owner in the price, so a team of one pays no seat fee. One extra member adds $2.00 a month on Professional with monthly billing, or $1.60 billed yearly. Publer also has a free plan for one user.

Publer's pricing page doesn't mention a social inbox, so plan on answering comments and DMs in each app.

Pallyy: best for a low-cost inbox that reads TikTok comments

On TikTok and on a budget, Pallyy puts your comments in an inbox for about $20 a month. Pallyy's inbox starts on Pro at $25 a month, or $20 billed yearly. It reads TikTok comments, as do Later, Vista Social, Sprout Social and Hootsuite.

BetterSocials reads TikTok comments too, and it answers TikTok DMs for Business accounts outside the UK and Europe. TikTok only lets a business reply to a DM, never start one, with up to 10 replies within 48 hours of the person's last message.

Later: best for an Instagram and TikTok inbox next to scheduling

Later suits a solopreneur whose audience lives on Instagram and TikTok. Its Conversations inbox starts on Growth at $37.50 a month billed yearly, the highest inbox price on this list. Later reads TikTok comments, and it has no YouTube or LinkedIn conversations.

If YouTube comments matter to you, BetterSocials, Buffer and Metricool all read them.

Meta Business Suite: best for free keyword DMs on Instagram and Facebook

Meta Business Suite is best for a solopreneur who only needs keyword DMs on Instagram and Facebook and wants to pay nothing. Meta's help pages say it can "send a message reply to comments on your posts that contain specific keywords or phrases" on Facebook and Instagram. The tool is free.

Meta Business Suite's keyword automations send templates you write, or Meta Business Agent, and you set them up on desktop. They wait 15 minutes before sending unless you reply first.

Meta Business Suite covers Meta's own apps only, and it doesn't answer the rest of your inbox. A paid tool takes over when you also post to TikTok or YouTube, or want every comment and DM in one place.

How do the prices compare at four accounts?

At four accounts, BetterSocials, Buffer and SocialBee land within a few dollars of each other. Buffer and Later show their yearly-billing rates in the table, and the others show the monthly price each vendor lists.

  • SocialBee Bootstrap: $29 monthly with up to five profiles included, or 16% less billed yearly.

FAQ

What is the best social media tool for a small business owner who runs it alone?

BetterSocials is our pick when comments and DMs bring in customers, at $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for four accounts. Buffer costs less if you mostly post, at $5 a channel a month billed yearly. Metricool's free plan covers one brand with an inbox.

Which social media schedulers don't charge per team member?

Buffer charges per channel, Metricool per brand, and Publer per social account, with the owner included and a small fee for each extra member. SocialBee and BetterSocials charge per plan, with a profile or account limit on each. Hootsuite's inbox starts at $99 per user a month and Sprout Social's at $199 per seat a month, both billed annually.

Is Buffer enough for a solopreneur?

Yes, if you mostly post and only answer comments. Buffer is $5 a channel a month billed yearly, so four channels come to $20. Its inbox covers comments only, so Instagram and Facebook DMs stay in the phone app.

Can a flat-price tool answer Instagram DMs with AI?

Yes. BetterSocials has a DMs section in AI replies that drafts or sends Instagram, Facebook and TikTok DM replies in your voice, from the AI rules you write. Creator is $29 a month for four accounts. Agorapulse also lists AI reply suggestions in its inbox, and it prices per user.

Is there a free social media tool for one person?

Yes. Metricool's free plan covers one brand and 20 posts a month, Publer has a free plan for one user, and Meta Business Suite sends free keyword replies on Instagram and Facebook. BetterSocials has no free plan. It has a 7-day free trial with a card, and a 30-day money-back guarantee on the first paid charge.

What does flat price mean for a social media tool?

A flat price means the bill is set by the plan or the number of accounts, and it doesn't grow with seats or contacts. ManyChat Pro, by comparison, is $39 a month for 2,500 active contacts, and each extra contact costs $0.05. A busy month on ManyChat raises the bill, while a flat-price plan stays the same.
